These two gifts were the icing on the cake for my birthday this year. Just too cool.
An old camera from an antiques shop that Bec found. Hopefully it's functional/I can find film for it. If not, I will proudly display it in a special place.
And snitch earrings that Jessie made me :) I mean, seriously, who doesn't want some of these?!

Love for Goodness Sake
I made my best & oldest friend (of 13 years!)a little surprise for when I come to visit her this weekend. She attends school in D.C. and sometimes grows lonely in the loud city. So, for her I made heart-shaped rosemary and strawberry jam scones with a lemon-sugar glaze...my first attempt at a Giada recipe. They turned out pretty well. And in exchange she's giving me a fun-filled night of freedom and friendship for my 23rd birthday in the city :)
Thanks Jess!

Oh Happy Day
My fifth Valentine's day with my boy (and he gave me these lovely flowers) was more sad than happy. Though it's a wonderful day to celebrate the love you share with one another, today was also a day that I drove away, again. You'd think it would get easier, but it just seems to be getting more painful. But, I do know that I am lucky to have someone to love & miss.

Safari One
In my first week of exploration and shooting, I found a few cool things that I thought were photo worthy. This little weekly series that I plan to do I thought could be appropriately referred to as weekly "safari's". This comes from a quote of someone whom I deeply admire, Dan Eldon:
"A safari is about more than the sum of a trip...It is about the power of departure, that feeling of cutting oneself off from the day-to-day routine and entering new time zones, different landscapes, other people's lives-all of which at the moment of departure, are totally unknown and unexpected. Safari is also about living in the moment and the way that travel forces you into the present, be it through extreme pleasure or hardship."
So here are some shots from today's safari:

Chiefs
Since November I've been assistant coaching the Varsity Girl's basketball at my alma mater, Monacan High School. It's been a blessing to be involved with the game of basketball and some really phenomenal girls. Without this team, the past few months probably would have left me far too anxious with applications and such and not nearly as fulfilled. Tomorrow is our final regular season game and I'm putting together a CD of images from the year for them. Here are some practice shots of these truly awesome girls!

Quail Bell
A former fellow intern has her own magazine (she's pretty fabulous) and was kind enough to post one of my photographs in the Art Photography section of the Quail Bell Magazine website.
